Grand Palace Regarded by many as the city’s finest hotel since it first opened in 2001, the Grand Palace is a supremely enjoyable place to stay. It manages to conjure up an old world feeling of luxury and decadence whilst at the same time staying ahead of the game with wi-fi now available in all guest rooms. Slick service, a sauna and gym help complete the impressive picture of perhaps the best hotel in the country. First class.

Hotel Bergs Recently rated by Conde Nast as one of the world’s best new boutique hotels, this slick operation in the new town is indeed impressive, both in terms of the designer décor and the seamlessly smooth service. The most fashionable place to stay in the Latvian capital at the moment, with a very good restaurant on site too.

Moderate
Konventa Seta Atmospheric hotel that is laid out in a ramble of old convent buildings in the heart of the old town, and offers excellent value. The 140 rooms are bright and comfortable with most mod cons, while the hotel also has some characterful small conference spaces. Highly recommended.

Radi un Draugi This cosy hotel, which translates as ‘Friends and Family’, is a well run bolthole in the old town that has for years resisted the attempt to skyrocket its prices and rake in the cash. A good value base for both tourists and business people.

Centra This funky boutique hotel is a stylish option handily located between the old town and the bus and railway stations. The 26 minimalist rooms are stylishly decorated and all have satellite TV and Internet connections. Some of the rooms on the upper levels also boast good views of the old town.
