Nightlife
The narrow streets of the Barrio del Carmen, on and around Calle Caballeros, is where most of the action takes place, though nothing gets going anywhere in the city before 2300. Other areas are Avenida de Aragón, Plaza de Canovas, and the university zone of Avenida Blasco Ibáñez, Plaza de Honduras, Plaza Xúquer and Juan Llorens. In summer the Paseo Neptuno at the beach is lively. See the free English-language listings magazines Cool Carmen and 24/7 Valencia for what’s on.
Hot clubs include La Indiana, Calle San Vicente 95 (website: www.laindiana.com) and Venial, a very popular gay club which also attracts a mixed crowd, Calle Quart 32. Radio City, Calle Santa Teresa 19, is an evergreen hybrid of bar, cultural centre and disco with an eclectic choice of music and live acts. Other good bars include Sol I Lluna, Calle del Mar 29, and La Marxa, Calle Cocina 5, both in the Barrio del Carmen. Wah-Wah in the Zona Blasco Ibáñez, Calle Campoamor 52, showcases the latest alternative, underground and up-and-coming bands, Café del Duende in the Barrio del Carmen specialises in flamenco and ethnic music and El Loco, Calle Erudiot Orellena 12, in the Zona Juan Llorens, is an eclectic live venue including blues, jazz, fusion, rock and flamenco.
