Kinsale Description The coastal town of Kinsale in the county of Cork in the southwest of the country is one of the most picturesque regions in Ireland. Two 17th-century forts guard the entrance to the harbour and guided tours are available of the star-shaped Charles Fort that was built in 1677. The 15th-century Desmond Castle had originally been used as a customs house before being converted to a prison in the 17th century. Nowadays, it’s home to the International Museum of Wine that details Kinsale’s role in the early international wine trade. Other attractions include an interesting museum housed within the old Courthouse and the 13th-century St Multose Church that’s still in use today. Away from the harbour, visitors can explore the winding cobbled streets through a maze of bars and fine seafood restaurants.
