National Gallery of Ireland
Description
The National Gallery of Ireland was founded in 1854 and houses the national collection of Irish art, the national collection of European Old Masters including works by Caravaggio and Rubens, the National Portrait Collection and the Yeats Collection. The latter features many works by Jack B Yeats, Ireland’s most important 20th-century artist. The National Gallery building, with its colonnaded façade, stands in the south of the city and dominates Merrion Square, one of Dublin’s finest Georgian squares. The Millennium Wing features temporary exhibitions and themed collections. Visitors to the Gallery can take advantage of the free public tours every Saturday and Sunday.
