Graceland
Description
Graceland is America’s monument to one of its favourite musicians and icons, Elvis Presley. The ‘King’ bought the colonial-style mansion in 1957 and lived there until his death in 1977, when distraught fans flocked to the site to pay their respects. The house has been open to the public since 1982, becoming a shrine to his music and his legacy. At the site, which is located 16km (10 miles) from Memphis, visitors can enter the rooms where the star and his family lived, tour Elvis’ jet planes, shop at Graceland Plaza or stay at the Heartbreak Hotel. Highlights include the Trophy Building, where many of his awards are displayed alongside personal momentos, and the Meditation Garden where Elvis was buried.
