Air
Aurigny Air Services (GR) offers flights to Guernsey (flight time – 15 minutes) and Southampton (flight time – 45 minutes). There are also daily direct services from Rockhopper.aero (from/to Bournemouth, Brighton, Jersey and Guernsey), plus thousands of private aviators.
International airports
Alderney Airport was the first airport to be built in the Channel Islands, in 1938. It has three operational runways. Airport facilities include buffet, duty free shop and taxis (from rank adjacent to terminal building). There is also a popular 'knit-while-you-wait' box in the departure lounge, which invites passengers to help knit squares towards making blankets to send to poverty-stricken countries.

Sea
There is a regular passenger ferry service from Dielette (Normandy) and Guernsey to Alderney, provided by Manche Illes Express (tel: (01481) 822 881; e-mail: rtb@alderney.net). Road
Caravans may not be imported to Alderney. Bus: During the summer months, an internal bus service operates on the island running from St Anne’s to the five main beaches. Taxi: Private taxi companies operate on the island. Car hire: There are several car hire companies on the island and two garages which have hire cars. Bicycle hire: There are several bike hire firms that rent out bicycles at daily or weekly rates. There are also guided coach and boat tours. Alderney also has its own version of the Orient Express, the famous Alderney Railway, which features a diesel engine train pulling along old converted London Underground carriages (tel: (01481 823 580). Regulations: Traffic drives on the left. Maximum speed limit is 35mph (56kph). Documentation: Full UK driving licence is accepted.
