Climate

General
Known as the ”Sunshine State, Florida has very hot weather in the summer with temperatures in the high 80s to low 90s. Weather differences between northern and southern Florida are more noticeable in winter. The hurricane season in Florida runs from the beginning of June to the end of November with mid August to mid October being the height of the season. There are two seasons for tornadoes, the main one being in the summer between June and September and a more deadly spring season between February and April, encouraged by the jet stream. It is important to keep up to date on weather conditions by listening to the radio or watching TV. If you are staying near the coast then you should also pay particular attention to the sign-posted evacuation routes.
Northern Zone: The northern zone is temperate; there can be rain all year round but the winters are mild with lows of 50°F (10°C) and with the possibility of frosts. Summers are hot and sunny.
Central Zone: In the central band - stretching from Tampa through Orlando to Daytona Beach and down to Fort Myers through Lake Okeechobee and West Palm Beach - travellers will enjoy mild winters and summers that are not as hot or humid as in the south.
Southern Zone: As you move into the southern parts of Florida, the climate becomes much more tropical with mild and warm winters and very hot, humid and sticky summers. Temperatures can reach 95°F (35°C) or more in the height of summer.
