Business Profile
Economy
Finance, tourism and light industry are the main components of Guernsey’s economy. The island has gradually been developed as an offshore financial centre and the financial sector now accounts for 60 per cent of government revenues. Various institutions are incorporated on the island to take advantage of its favourable tax and corporate disclosure requirements. However, along with Jersey, the island’s government agreed in 2002 to join an EU-wide campaign to improve international financial transparency and stamp out tax evasion. Flowers and tomatoes are the main horticultural exports and enjoy international recognition. Tourism’s relative importance has been far outstripped by the financial sector.
