Travel - International

Note
Nationals living in, or intending to travel to, the northern and western border regions of (Former Yugoslav Republic of) Macedonia should exercise caution. Sporadic acts of violence do still occur in (Former Yugoslav Republic of) Macedonia, particularly in the north, but also including Skopje. However, most visits to (Former Yugoslav Republic of) Macedonia are trouble-free.

Air
The national airline is Macedonian Airlines – MAT (IN). Other airlines serving Skopje are Adria Airways, Austrian Airlines, Croatia Airlines and KLM. Connections are available to Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands, Italy, Serbia & Montenegro, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey.

Approximate flight times
From Skopje to London is approximately four hours.

International airports
Skopje (SKP) (website: www.airports.com.mk) is 25km (16 miles) from the city. Taxis are available to the city centre (travel time – 25 to 30 minutes). Airport facilities include duty-free shop, bar and restaurant, bank/bureau de change, baggage facilities, post office and car hire (Avis and Hertz). There is also an airport at Ohrid.

Departure tax
None.

Rail
Intercity trains operate five times a day between Skopje and Belgrade (Serbia) via Ni¡s. Trains also run twice daily between Skopje and Thessaloniki (Greece).

Road
Bus: The international bus station in Skopje serves buses destined for Tirana (Albania), Sofia (Bulgaria), Belgrade (Serbia) and Istanbul (Turkey), which run daily, and buses to Germany, which run twice weekly.
