Restricted Entry and Transit
Nationals of the following countries are 'Excluded Locations' and must apply to the Northern Mariana Islands' Attorney General in Saipan for a preliminary waiver that is issued on a case-by-case basis and that necessitates additional documents (including providing, or having a sponsor provide, a bond by an approved bond company for US$5000 or amount decided by Attorney General, and official letter - bearing the seal of the relevant immigration or governmental authority in the particular excluded country - that declares that such country will unconditionally accept the return of the excluded national without delay): Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Bangladesh*, Cuba, Egypt, Eritrea, Fujian Province of China, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Korea (Dem Rep), Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Myanmar, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sri Lanka*, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen, unless having a US Visa in their passport, which should be valid for a minimum of 60 days after entry.
All aforementioned information should be submitted by fax or post at least four weeks prior to the intended date of departure.

Nationals marked * require a letter guaranteeing expedited return in order to gain a preliminary waiver.

Passports
Passports valid for at least 60 days after date of entry are required by all.

Visas
Required by all except the following:
(a) nationals of EU countries (except 1. Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland and Slovak Republic who do require a visa as they are not current participants in the US Visa Waiver Program);
(b) 2. nationals of Andorra, Australia, Brunei, Iceland, Japan, Liechtenstein, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, San Marino, Singapore and Switzerland.


Note
3. Nationals of Australia, Canada, Hong Kong (SAR), Ireland, Japan, Korea (Rep) and the UK are exempt from Visitor Entry Permits into the Northern Mariana Islands, although this may be counteracted by individual circumstances.

Types of visa and cost
Various; decided according to individual cases.

Note
All Visitor Entry Permit applications submitted one week or less prior to arrival will be processed at an emergency administrative fee of US$100.

Validity
Various. Visas are generally required for touristic stays of more than 30 days. Stays may be extended by an additional 60 days whilst in the Northern Mariana Islands.

CNMI Division of Immigration (see Contact Addresses section).

Application requirements
Visitor Entry Permit: (a) Possession of Authorization Board letter (approved by the Director of Immigration), including full name, permanent address, telephone number(s), purpose of visit, proof of place of employment, date of arrival and departure, airline carrier and flight number (full itinerary), passport (plus photocopy), proof of sufficient funds and address of intended location. A sponsor must submit a notarised Affidavit of Support letter, including copy of passport valid for at least 60 days after entry date, copy of Driver's License (if applicable), copy of entry permit, copy of two latest paycheck stubs, Business License (if applicable), and if sponsor is a company, a copy of the latest Business Gross Revenue (BGR) tax document. (b) Some individuals will need to submit evidence of police clearance, issued within six months of date of embarkation; contact the Division of Immigration for further information. Visa: Individuals will need to submit various documents, including some necessary for Visitor Entry Permits. Individuals should prepare by contacting the Division of Immigration well in advance to negotiate what documents are necessary for the individual processing of their visa.

Note
(a) Nationals of Indonesia and Malaysia always require Police Clearance for the processing of a Visitor Entry Permit. (b) Nationals of The Philippines always require a National Bureau Investigation (NBI) for the processing of a Visitor Entry Permit.

Working days required
By post: applications are dealt with on receipt. In person: subject to the discretion of the Division of Immigration. Generally, documents needed for the processing of all Visitor Entry Permits should be submitted at least two weeks prior to arrival.
