Air
International airports: Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) (website: www.bwiairport.com) is 16km (10 miles) south of Baltimore and 40km (25 miles) northeast of Washington, DC. Some 19 million passengers passed through this ultra-modern airport in 2002. MTA light-rail services depart every 17 minutes to Baltimore (travel time - approximately 25 minutes), while airport shuttles run every 20 minutes (travel time - 30 minutes). MARC commuter trains run hourly on weekdays between Washington, DC, and Baltimore Pennsylvania Station via the airport. Fast and frequent shuttle buses and rail services are also available to Washington, DC. Taxis and limousines are available, and Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty car hire companies are represented.

From Baltimore to London is seven hours 30 minutes, to Los Angeles is five hours 45 minutes and to New York is one hour 15 minutes.
Rail
Baltimore is on the main East Coast Amtrak line (tel: (800) 872 7245 (toll-free); website: www.amtrak.com) and consequently receives frequent direct services from as far afield as New Orleans and Miami. Road
Greyhound (tel: (800) 229 9424 (toll-free); website: www.greyhound.com) buses stop at the Greyhound Bus Station, 2110 Haines Street, in downtown Baltimore. Approximate driving times: From Baltimore to Washington, DC is 50 minutes, to Philadelphia is two hours, to New York is four hours, to Chicago is 15 hours, to Miami is 23 hours, to Dallas is 29 hours, to Los Angeles is 56 hours and to Seattle is 59 hours. All times are based on non-stop driving at or below the applicable speed limits.

Urban
The entire Baltimore metropolitan area is covered by the Maryland Transit Administration (website: www.mtamaryland.com), which runs buses, light rail and the metro. Services run 0600-0000 (weekdays) and 0700-0000 (weekends); exact change is required on buses. Water taxis provide regular cross-harbour services, including a route between the National Aquarium and Fell’s Point. Taxis can be hailed easily on the street in major tourism areas, and in front of major hotels, or ordered by phone. Cars and motorhomes can be hired.
