Money

Money
For information on currency, credit cards, travellers cheques, exchange rates and currency restrictions, see the main United Kingdom section.

Note
For travelling around and staying at small hotels, cash is needed. Elsewhere, as in England, cheques backed by a banker’s card are widely accepted.
Some hotels will change money but Thomas Cook (there is one in Belfast, for example) and the banks give the best rate of exchange.

Banking hours
Mon-Fri 0900-1600. In very small villages, the bank may open two or three days a week only, so aim to get cash in the bigger centres.
