Accommodation
VisitScotland publishes a series of accommodation guides covering hotels and guest houses, bed & breakfast, self-catering and camping and caravanning, for which there is a charge, plus postage and packing.
There is a wide range of accommodation available in Scotland, comprising guest houses, bed & breakfast establishments, hotels, international resort hotels, self-catering, campsites, serviced apartments, lodges, inns, restaurants with rooms and campus accommodation. Many hotels have been built, modernised or refurbished during the last few years, as well as the many guest houses and bed & breakfast premises throughout the country. More than 500 hotels, guest houses and bed & breakfast establishments are members of the ‘Walkers Welcome’ initiative and make special efforts to meet the needs of walkers.
Grading: VisitScotland has recently introduced a new star system to rate guest accommodation, replacing the Crown System. The ratings are as follows: 1 Star: Fair and acceptable; 2 Stars: Good; 3 Stars: Very good; 4 Stars: Excellent; 5 Stars: Exceptional, world-class. For a selection of some of the finest hotels in Scotland, see online (website: www.distinctionworld.com) or, for further information, contact VisitScotland (see Contact Addresses section).
