Literacy Program

The San Benito County Free Library Adult Literacy Program has been helping community members to achieve their literacy goals since January, 2007.

These pages are designed to support our current tutors and learners, and we have a selection of links and lists of resources that are available at the library.

If you are interested in improving your reading and writing skills, or becoming a tutor, you can go to the contact us page to find out how to get started.

Founding Principles

  • Mission -- Improve the reading and writing skills of English-speaking adults.
  • Model -- One-on-one learning partnership of learner and tutor to accomplish practical goals that address everyday needs.
  • Engine -- Powered by the dedicated efforts of our volunteer tutor staff.

California Library Literacy Services

The SBCFL Adult Literacy Program receives major funding from the California Library Literacy Services (CLLS), a program of the California State Library. The mission of CLLS is to enable Californians of all ages to reach their literacy goals and use library services effectively. California has approximately 3.4 million adults with below basic literacy skills.
